    1. Nothing
    2. V-neck white t-shirt
    3. White/blue/green/gray t-shirt

NO polos under a button-up, ever (esp. with the collar up). And you should probably stop wearing shorts.

Also, there's a new forum for questions like this - the streetwear and denim forum.

Perhaps you would consider wearing the shirt you mentioned with the top two buttons unbuttoned and tucked into your shorts. In this case, you will not need to wear anything under the shirt and this would look better, in my opinion.

If the shirt is in the navy blue you'd be better off going with a light colored tshirt, light blue go with a dark colored tshirt. Offers some contrast.

It's highschool (i'm guessing), if it looks good to you go for it. Nobody has any clue what the "right" thing to wear is, just be confident and you can't go wrong.

    And shorts are fine.

Polo under a buttonup... ugh. But if you like it, go for it. Don't go for it because you saw it in gq, etc.

What did you end up wearing today?

I think that shirt would be fine with shorts - a polo with the collar popped could work under it - it would just be a very preppy, young look - but you're 17 so that would be fine.

You could also just wear the shirt by itself - no undershirt needed.

What type of shoes are you wearing? At your age, a pair of leather flip flops would be good, a little bit more hip than sneakers, boat shoes or loafers - American Eagle has some nice ones - better than the cheap ones at Old Navy.

Why is that so funny? Going to school requires you to wear an undershirt? *confused

Don't you remember what your chest looked like at age 17? This kid is probably hoping for his first chest muscle. Nothing looks bad like high school exposed chest. I had a rule when I was coaching high school lacrosse - when you get your first chest hair you can run with your shirt off.

I think we sort of figured that he would choose to button-up the front of the shirt if he wore it without an undershirt.

Not to be too much of a dick (okay, I'm a dick, sue me), but your whole idea sounds really MTV makeover "wack 2 mack" gross. The popped collar is an instant indicator of worthlessness to me and everyone I know, but I don't think you're going for the "Fuck everyone, I don't care what anyone thinks" look, so I'd say it's ill-advised. A T-shirt underneath an unbuttoned long-sleeved button-up shirt just screams douchebag fratboy to me, and the shorts aren't doing that any favors.

It's not an egregiously offensive idea if you subtract the popped collar from the equation, mind you...
