Kansai Yamamoto who brought the more flamboyant side of Japanese style to public attention, particularly through his designs for David Bowie, has died.

He hadn't done any new work for a while, and his particular take was no longer that popular in a more subdued age but he shouldn't be forgotten.

The Japanese fashion designer was famed for bringing ‘basara’ to Bowie, and went on to be a huge influence on a generation of younger talents from Jean Paul Gaultier to Hedi Slimane
