How come the new 253/254 sportcoats for this season are all half-canvassed? In the past I thought all the sportcoats and suits were fully canvassed...

Hi there. Model 253 and 254 have nearly the same fit, but are constructed slightly differently. Model 253 is generally reserved for suits, and is always fully-canvassed. Model 254 is generally reserved for jackets, and is made up with a lighter, half-canvass construction that gives the jacket an even softer feel. For reference, the only difference in fit between the two models is that the jacket model (254) is cut 1 cm shorter in the back length.

    Question:

The only retailer that carries Ring Jacket that I know of in Northern CA
is Khaki's in Carmel. Both at Khaki's and at two trunk shows in San Francisco
I tried your jackets in 44R. They didn't come close to fitting in the chest
and shoulders. Do you have 46 (56) R ? Can it be ordered?

    Thanks.

    Hi Comrade

Retailers size their own orders, but many of our stockists do carry size 56 and sometimes 58. We also have a some items available in those sizes through our web shop.

I thought Model 254 was fully canvassed from a previous post that's why I'm surprised to see that it is half-canvassed now...

You have a dropped shoulder as you can see from the shot from behind. You need to rebalance the shoulder and collar to compensate for the drop on your right shoulder. All you really need is a good tailor. I had a customer the other day with the same issue and was able to correct it with a few tweaks.

If you love the suit and fabric then get it but if you want something that fit perfect off the rack you might need something with a more of a padded shoulder to mask that drop.

    I wear a J42 no-184 but I'm interested in taking a chance on a J42 no-236. Can anyone comment on the differences in cut/fit?

Looking for sizing advice, and new to Ring Jacket. For jacket sizing I typically wear size 46 Formosa, 48/50 Eidos depending on cut.

Curious what size I should be looking at for the Armoury AMJ03 model, and the 245 model (eying a few at Rakuten). TIA!

I recently went to the trunk show at the armoury and can say that the amj03 is pretty true to your normal size. I think the armoury has measurements on their website so I would measure and compare. I have a 48 in the 184 which I bought in japan and amj03 46. Normally wear 46 or 36s.

I'm trying to find a place to try Formosa and eidos so can't speak to direct comparison sorry. No clue About 245 lol, but from what I said above the sizes are a bit different in Japan

Hmmm really? I wear a 36S (I'm 5'7.5" and about 140lbs) and have heard (or read online rather), that in the 184 I'd probably be a 46 and the AMJ03 with its fuller silhouette and slightly extended shoulders that people typically size down and that I'd be a 44. The gentlemen in the Armoury's YouTube videos where they show the fit of the different Ring Jacket models is basically the same size as me and he wears a 44 in the armoury AMJ models and a 46 in the 184.

I don't have direct experience you do though, so take what I've read with a grain of salt. PS - I wish I could've gone to the ring jacket trunk show at the Armoury!

I'm about 5'4 136. Was about 145 and that's the last time I had the 184 version on which was a Japanese 48. Definitely very slim and more modern. The amj03 in 46 was still slim but a fuller in the chest. Sasamoto-San and my fiancé said the 46 looked better than the 44 so I went with their advice haha. The did make some changes by taking in waste a little bit and shortening length of jacket. I think best thing would be to try it on, but if you can't maybe compare measurements of your stuff and compare. I don't have the new jackets yet or I'd show you a fit comparison.

I'm 5'5 and 128 lbs. I wear 184 in size 42 and if I'm nitpicking I can have the waist taken in a bit. The AMJ cut is too loose, even in size 42

If you scroll down on the link they have the comparisons of the models in measurements. Not sure if it helps you out much

Im pretty sure they arent going to anymore since theres not a lot of stockists and the minimums are close to 80 units.
