The Germans have the sheer range and numbers, but my favourite rieslings have come from Alsace and Austria. Zind-Humbrecht's grand crus Brand or Clos St. Urbain (I have a slight preference for the latter) and Trimbach's CuvÃ

in appreciaction of this thread, I picked up a random German riesling last night. $11, screw cap, and franky it was an awesome wine. Nothing very complex, as expected, but great balance from start to finish. I can't remember the last time I was so impressed with a sub-$12 wine as I was with this bottle. I forget the name, I'll post it later.

Along this line, I really like the Wilhelm Bergmann Rieslings. I like the crisper ones so I usually pick the Spatlese or Kabinett and stay away from the Auslese. They are $12-14 retail, I can find them everywhere and quite nice for sipping in the evenings. This is a pic I posted in another thread a few nights ago.
