Why anyone will be bothered by gay people to the point of actively discriminating them is beyond me...

You might not share their sexual penchant but just leave them alone...

BTW I'm a hetero before you ask.

...and always keep in mind: This guy is one of the more reasonable contestants for the Republican nomination - scary isn't it?

If you read "reasonable" in regards to governance, than that statement is inaccurate. However, he does have a decent shot at the nomination. As does Bachmann.

Fortunately, even if they did get that far, it would be just about impossible for them to win a national election where they would have to actually win votes from a group other than the far right.

    It is scary...

Where are the great Republican politicians?

They look more and more populists and politically irrelevant...

Even the Conservatives from all over the pond are shaking their head in despair..

I do not agree with Tim Pawlenty politically, but at least he is not a raving madman screaming fire and brimstone. I guess the Republican party did not learn from the Palin debacle...

I believe that nearly all homophobes fall into one of three categories:

    1) People who suspect or know that they themselves are gay but cannot accept or admit it. They lash out against openly gay people in order to deflect suspicion away from themselves.

    2) Straight-but-insecure people who fear being accused of being gay because they've seen what kind of discrimination homosexuals face in our society. They lash out at openly gay people in order to deflect suspicion away from themselves.

    3) Ignorant people who've been told by parents, clergy, or some other authority figure that homosexuality is an abomination against god and who haven't bothered to think about it for themselves. They lash out at openly gay people because they think they're supposed to and they've been taught not to question authority.

I'd be shocked indeed to find even a single homophobe who is secure in his or her own sexuality.

I have been accused of being homophobic on FNB because we were having a laugh accusing each other of being gay..

Some people, on both sides of the argument ,are too sensitive ,bigoted or blinded by hatred...

    Live and let live..

I don't care who he's sticking it to, unless we're talking about teachers.

Whoever commented on the his ties was right: that is pandering, not fashion.

It seems the Republican party has sold it's soul to the far religious right. Presumably because they believe they must do so in order to become elected. Unfortunately for them it seems to me that as they veer further and further towards the far right and the tea party the electorate is becoming more and more liberal on social issues. (At least this is my fondest dream).

What I don't understand is how they have been able to somehow win the hearts of the common working man when in fact they do little to help him.

Oh - and back to clothes - they dress BAD!

At least he's actually from Texas, unlike that carpetbagger on the left.

Excellent question, G-man. Thomas Frank wrote the book on the subject:
