Sorry, just saw this. Where are you located?

I've done the diligence on re-upholstering services in the NYC area. The two best I know of for contemporary/modern furniture are Simon's and Prestige Furniture and Design. I've used both for reupholstering my Florence Knoll sofa.

Prestige is a bit pricier, but they have the stronger reputation and do a lot of work for the manufacturers themselves. Knoll, for example, uses Prestige to re-upholster the furniture in their showrooms when they want to show a different fabric. Also, when I dealt with Prestige, the owner directly managed the job, which inspired confidence. The result exceeded the original workmanship in quality, which was already pretty good.

Prior to Prestige, I used Simon's on more than one occasion. They did a great job--as good if not better than original workmanship, but not quite as good as Prestige. Also, the owner/manager was never involved or even reachable. I had to coordinate with staff, whose English was not always the best.

Both know classics like the Florence Knoll very well and can replicate the original patterns, stitching, etc. However, Prestige focuses on contemporary and modern, whereas Simon's does everything.

Prestige can be reached at 718-721-2200 and is located is in Queens. Simon's is in Manhattan (Chelsea) and can be reached at 212-727-7106.

By the way, why "American fabrics?" Contact Maharam in New York for Kvadrat fabrics. They are the U.S. distributor and sell direct to consumers by the yard. Alternatively, Prestige can order the fabric you want directly from them. Simon's--not sure if they provide that level of service.
