Return of the three button suit?

As of late the three button suit has been looking rather fresh again to my eyes. In many ways it suits the current trend for a shorter jacket better than a one or two button. Generally of course with the except for one or four buttons which will always be either a brief trend or a more unusual stylistic choice mens coats switch from 2 to 3. Im calling it now though, I think its starting to happen.

What do you think?

Frankly, it's a look that doesn't work well for me and, I suspect, most other men. I can imagine if you're quite tall and lean, a 3-bt could be a decent look.

The prerequisites to a successful 3-bt. would be quite a bit of roll to the lapels, a definitive waist line, with somewhat open quarters.

A big fan of this look although being critical the front balance is quite off:

I started thinking about them again after watching Sherlock (the old TV series). I think the conclusion I arrived at is that to pull them off, you have to be much older than me. Also, the only ones I've ever seen that I liked were three-piece suits, so... yeah.

Prince William wears a decent British 3 button.

Can somebody confirm whether Daniel Craig wears a classic 3 button or a 3r2 in Skyfall?

On screen there looks like a very prominent lapel roll, but some say its because the suit is too tight, hence the lapel is pulling.

Has it ever been other than fresh to the discerning bespoke client?

They are certainly more "in" now than in a good long while, but I have never stopped wearing them. Same with double-breasted suits.
I personally think double-breasted suits are the best thing since the Resurrection, but I just don't like 3-button suits. They always look blocky to me.

It seems strange that people would have such strong feelings about 3 buttons as if they were very unusual these days but I suppose they are now. Having said that 15 years ago when I started wearing pocket squares people thought I was crazy, same for three pieces and more recently DBs.

Surely the vast majority of people express no view whatever on any style of suit, merely buy that which the bulk manufacturers and so called 'wise' people determine is fashionable - i.e. we change every year to encourage peo0ple to buy into a new year's output?

I wear both. They look equally good (or bad) on me. The three buttons I wear
are 3/2, so they appear almost like two buttons. What I refuse to wear is the shorter
jacket and lapels narrower than 3- 3.5 inches. Except for one jacket, all my wardrobe
has very natural shoulders.
