Hi,

I'm new to styleforum and suit purchasing and recently made the mistake of buying a suit on sale without reading these forums re: suit fitting. I now know much better than to trust a salesperson who sold me a suit two jacket sizes too large (48 vs 44) and tell me it would be perfect with some alterations.

The suit is a fairly broad padded shoulder (think Australian / Anthony Squire or wide cut). I'll post photos later.

What are my chances of getting the suit looking decent. i'm thinking the chest needs to be brought in significantly, sleeves shortened and narrowed and jacket shorted an inch. Trousers to be taken in at the waist and side seams so they are less 'baggy'. For cost and practical reasons, I'm not inclined to change the shoulders.

To compare, I have a Boss Gable/Vegas with Loro Piana four seasons 120S fabric; 44R cut suit that's perfect.

*edit - yes I know Boss isn't highly regarded on these forums but I'm only a junior at work and can't really afford the Brioni / Kiton bespoke yet!*

Whilst the quality of Boss can't compare with Kiton/Oxxford etc, you will find that almost all will say that 'fit is king' and takes precedence over 'quality' as long as it's not going to fall apart on you after a dozen wearings. Unless a piece of clothing is so cheap that it you can't leave it on the rack, then there is no point in deliberately buying something a size too large, never mind two sizes. If you can't return it, then sell it here on the B&S board. It's not worth the cost of altering it.

Its not worth being altered. The chest will probibly have to be taken in to much and there is only so much it can be altered.

That's not alterations, you'd need to have the jacket re-cut, and that's a tall order. I'd return it if that was an option, since you were mis-led by the salesman.

Agree with all the above. Return it or sell it.

Return it and shop somewhere else.
