In this week's episode they mention that Tommy's cousin was killed in the WTC and all they found was his finger. I'm betting Jimmy didn't actually die on 9/11, rather he faked his own death to escape from Sheila (just cut off his finger and left it there). He'll either reappear in the series finale and shoot Tommy for bonking his wife and turning his son into a vegetable, or he'll show up and Tommy will shoot him for being so angry at thinking he's been dead for 10 years.
That's my prediction.
