I straighten my hair and it has started to look a bit dry and stringy. Anyone have recommendations for what I need to be doing with regards to conditioners, hot oil treatments, etc to ensure I am not damaging my hair too much?

I straighten it quite often, maybe once every 2 weeks and I get it cut every week. I currently only use a basic shampoo and conditioner everyday.

Why do you straighten your hair?

1. Don`t wash your hair for a day or two before treatment
2. Don`t get it done so often. How about once every month or once every 2 months
3. Use the deep conditioner after treatment (doesn`t it come with it?)
4. Don`t shampoo for a few days afterwards
5. Start conditioning after a few days.

I don`t know if any of the above really help from damage, but that is basically the routine I use.

I started straightening my hair when I was 17 to get rid of the waves. I am now 25.

I use the straightener from Walgreens.

I had never heard of this before. I know some Black women straighten their hair but I didn't know guys did, too.

You don`t have to have super curly hair (like black women) and make it bone straight. If you have some waves and want to make it much more manageable you can get it slightly straightened (as they say in the salon *relaxed*

)

I don`t know if the do it yourself approach (Walgreens) is a good idea though. Judging from women who do their own hair color, it does more damage with amateur results.

Have you ever tried using something like this + this instead of doing something that is ultimately damaging to hair?
