Hi SF,

Looking for a place to rent tuxedos for my wedding. Where can you guys recommend?

Also, what are some good brand names to look for?

I personally go to tailors for bespoke suits; but I'd rather rent something that I'm only wearing once in my lifetime.

Thanks.

If you're really familiar with the fit of a bespoke suit, why do you insist on spending lots of money making yourself and your friends look ridiculous? Just opt for a less formal dress code. I've never heard of a tuxedo rental outlet that rents out high-quality, properly-fitted garments.

I agree with the foregoing. If the ol' exchequer can stand it, maybe you could commission a three piece suit with a DB vest with shawl or peak lapels to make it "special" for the wedding.

Out of curiosity, who is the bespoke tailor you use in the L.A. area? I have the sense there is something of a dearth of them, really good ones, anyway.

Time for a new Bespoke Suit I think. No rule you have to wear a tux. A bespoke suit will look 10,000 times better then a rental tux

As for rentals in your area, I have no reccomendations. On this website, you will find very few people can even tolerate the idea of renting clothing, so I don't know how much luck you will have. If you are dead set on renting, I would try wedding message boards, as the brides that are dressing their grooms will have done much more research on this.

I agree that a new suit is a better option than a rented Tux. Is it an evening ceremony? If not, a Tux isn't appropriate anyway. But, I would recommend looking for vintage, over renting. I got my entire black tie rig, shoes and alterations included, for under $500, by going that route. There are also some discount online retailers that have decent stuff, and you can then get one that fits. Or, if you are getting married during the day, you could go to morning dress (though, I'm always biased in that direction, as I recently fulfilled a dream of many years by getting married in impeccable morning dress) wherein almost all of the elements can be worn again. For example, get a suit made in dove grey with a double breasted waistcoat and shawl or peak lapels. Use the waistcoat. Get a chalk stripe, or glen plaid suit made. Use the pants. Buy a morning coat (you may know it as a cutaway) from either of these sites:

www.clermontdirect.com
www.savvyrow.co.uk

Or, just get the pants made, or wear pants you already have, and purchase an inexpensive waistcoat from either Clermont or Savvy Row, above, or from mytuxedo.co.uk (got mine there).

Then it's just a matter of a shirt and tie, from which you'll get a great deal of use. Both of those sites also sell affordable Tuxedos. But, if that's too cumbersome, wear a lovely new suit, I'd say. If you are really keen to wear a Tuxedo, it must mean you want one, so, if you have the means, buy a lovely one. Once you own it, you will start looking for (and finding, or creating) opportunities to wear it.

JLibourel, we just moved to the LA area from the northeast, so I'm also looking for a bespoke tailor in the area.

Has anyone got recommendations for good bespoke tailors in the LA area? I've searched through past SF posts; the recommendations seem a bit outdated, as some have closed down.

I would try starting a new thread, if the old ones are that out dated. You might have to bump it a couple of times. A lot of people will scroll right past this one, as it says "Rental" in the title.

This may be an option for a rental: https://theblacktux.com/

I have not dealt with them, but I had forgotten I had heard about them. Their dinner jackets have proper styling. You might try searching for black tie threads, though be prepared for most people to admonish you for considering a rental. You may have noticed we can be a little snobby around here. :p
