So I managed to pick up a pair of (supposedly vintage) Church's off ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=260352093948.

Looks pretty decent and at $19.99 I figured what the hell, I'll bite and take the risk. Now that I've won the auction, next step is to figure out how to remove the stains on the toe and heel. The seller says they might be water stains, which seems to me that they might be easily removable. Anyone have experience with this? If it isn't water and is some other nefarious substance (red wine, for example) am I more or less screwed and out 20 bucks?

If it's a water based stain try to wash it a piece of cloth or something (I'm not an expert on this I leave this type of thing to a friend of mine), though if it's something else harder to remove you may need stain removal product of some sort (don't take my word for it though)

Take care with bookbinder shoes, the whole color will go out if you go with a harsh solvent!
