Have my eye on an auction in which a leather item bears someone else's gilded initials. Can these initials be removed easily and what's the appearance after removal? Thanks for your advice.

I once ordered a set of Religious Books for my wife, bound in Antique leather with her name. The Binder did the wrong color (blamed it on me of course) so what I did was I had him remove the binding and put it on some books that I used, and what he did with the imprint of the name was he scraped the gold off, and then made a rectangular impression, over the entire area in the size of my name, so as to give a new "writing area" if you will. The results...if you pay enough attention you see something isnt totally right, but otherwise its OK. Edited for Spilling...Too mutsh time reyding the Styleman thread... [IMG]

Not offended, Alan. Helping children learn is more important than my acquisition of someone else's wallet.
