I saw my parents on Saturday, a few days before my birthday. They always give me a gift. . .but this year. . .wow. . .bearing in mind that they live about an hour from Woodbury Commons outlet mall. . .they got me a 1/4 zip Brunello Cuccinelli cashmere sweater. My father dresses like George Costanza. I was *very* impressed. They also bought me paella. My birthdays are getting better as I get older.

Lol, how old are you? I thought people stop getting birthday gifts from their parents once they turned 18?

I dunno. . .I just turned 29. . .and over the past two or three years they started giving me gifts again.

Last birthday gift I got from my parents was a used Sony walkman. I always wanted the Lego Space Monorail set but they could never afford it.

my last bday my mom got me an RL wind breaker jacket....i was happy with it, still am.now that im grown i hold on to clothes for years.

but yea, i hadn't received a bday gift from her for a few years prior to this!

i always felt really bad as a kid when i got a gift i didnt particularly like/want
i appreciated it but it made me sad knowing they thought i would like it when i actually didnt

my brother got quite a few Lego sets as gifts from our parents. i got Transformers robots. sadly, many a beautiful plastic block skyline became a casualty of the intergalactic blood feud between Megatron and Optimus Prime

A friend of mine had this - his parents were divorced so he always had the latest toys, lucky bastard. Anyway it was beyond awesome, spent days building a whole city around it and then trashing it all with an 'invasion'.

O now I remember what lego set you guys were talking about. Nice one.
I used to have a huge city in my room as well. I used to like these 'magazines' that consisted of examples of castles and spacecities etc. that you could build yourself. Not what the box you just bought tells you to do, but to build your own world. I vaguely remember pictures of castles that were so huge and awesome. Also I remember a spaceship so big that I could not have lifted it from the ground at the age I was at then.

This makes me sad. My childhood blew. Although actually, it wasn't the System monorail I wanted, it was the precursor, this one -

Gifts from my mom stopped some time around 13, and resumed at 30. I think she's trying to make up for the lean years.
