Relish No More

I just received a postcard informing me that Relish, a Georgetown clothing store owned by Nancy Pearlstein (daughter of Louis Boston's Murray), will no longer carry men's clothing as of February 1, 2007. A Relish salesman told me that men's clothing sales were not as profitable as Nancy expected. Apparently, too many shoppers like me who didn't buy anything until the sales kicked in.

Hmmmm. Not sure what this really means. She closed her Chevy Chase location about a year and a half ago. I thought the Cady's Alley location was a good one for her classically hip store design and clothing choices. The decision to add menswear and accessories was a fairly bold move, but she chose some top notch lines and was one of the few Washington-DC area shops where one could find John Lobb shoes (albiet models of a rather sporty genre).

A going out of the menswear business sale, perhaps?

They stopped selling before I could afford anything in there! Bah.

Sad to hear, but I can't say I ever bought anything there. I wonder if the Gtown barney's co-op had an effect.

I have shopped there a few times in the past year and purchased a few pairs of trousers and a couple of sportcoats. For the F/W, they picked up Engineered Garments, but only a few pieces. I always found interesting stuff there.

IMHO, the problem is that they didn't stock the correct sizes. I was there in October and they had great stuff, but nothing in any size smaller than a Large ... the salesman told me that they blow through the XS, S, M merchandise almost as soon as it comes in.

Sad to see the menswear go, though ...
