Great stuff! What's your typical price for shirting? I particularly like e bankers stripe you posted above.

Thank you, you would be looking at 275 for a shirt at the moment. They are made by my shirtmaker Dave in Manchester England. Dave makes an individual pattern for every client, he really is a genius with fits. Nice slim arms and armholes, good proportions.

    Best,

    Dave.

Thank you, looks like its going to be a short but busy stay this time.

I just bought a Russian hat for the trip, the chap was saying to me "forget fashion because its cold" I said, "naah, you never forget that".

Hope to see you for a fitting at some point, David.

And good idea on the hat. I wore a toque for the first time in years today, and it gave me crazy hat hair. It had the effect of making it look like I dyed my hair

Looks like I am pretty much booked up for Toronto but I still have some times on Tuesday morning. In any case I will be back in about 6 weeks for the fittings from this trip.

I got everything for my Toronto trip in a gym bag. Packing H Lesser, Dormeuil Royal 12, Amadeus, mohair and some Acorn cottons for shirts.

A fan here from Singapore.. Pretty much an anglofile having spent much time growing up in the UK, and I love THE gentleman's suit tho I'm biased.

Hopefully, there will be an opportunity to somehow make a suit someday with you. By the way, what was the MTM schedule like? Fittings?

    good on you lad.

Thank you jweiht, I do rather complicated alterations on MTM, I've been known to chip shoulders and even rotate sleeves ( if this is what you are asking me). MTM takes about 2 months at the moment. I am, I think, on the verge of discontinuing MTM though. Its getting to be too time intensive with all the work going on with the two bespoke lines. Rather unusually I have always done more very high end bespoke suits than I have MTM, the mainstay of the company is the 2500 suit made locally in NYC.

Quick note - David showed me his double brested Dormieul herringbone overcoat last week. It is very nice. Bespoke around $2500 I believe.

I have a similar Ovadia one which we compared (retails for ~1,500). My is about 1 season old while David's is 3-4 seasons old.

    What did I learn:

    (1) His wool has aged much better though he has worn his 3-4x more than I have. Top notch fabrics last/wear better. Much less piling.
    (2) His looks newer because it has aged so well. The wool looks near new.
    (3) His looks great because it is bespoke so it fits him very well.
    (4) His will most likely continue to age better than mine.

I came away thinking a $2,500 bespoke overcoat looks like a pretty good deal over the long haul. You probably can get 6-8+ years out of it, and just get the lining redone as that seems to be the part that wears down, not the wool. My two cents is if you are going to spend north of $1,000 on an over coat, consider this option as it appears to be a better long term deal.

I will always advise a client to invest in good cloth. Aside from the named books which look fancy a client may not be able to appreciate looking at a swatch the difference in quality between say one navy wool cloth and another. When that higher end cloth is made up they will however see and feel that difference for a whole lot longer.

Quantity has a quality all of its own but how many suits and overcoats do you need to wear? A small well thought out and quality wardrobe is all most men need.

    Here is the coat:

I'm still lusting after a pea coat and a duffle jacket.

    Any pics?

Hi David - I was not able to book an appointment with you on your last visit here - but if I may ask - how was the Toronto trip?
