Nice, David. Is that done "body coat" style with a waist seam, or more like a traditional suit coat but with abbreviated fronts and a lengthened tail. Either way, must have been fun to do.

Yes it has a waist seam. They are fun to do, I'm averaging about one a year now....which is actually quite a number for something like this.

I have met Paul Smith and he seems very nice, same for Ralph Lauren, I actually measured him up for some shirts once.

Other famous clothing designers I have met are (off the top of my head):

Thome Brown, Richard James, Ozwald Boeteng, Valentino, Prada, Sean Combs and Gaultier.

A rather misunderstood and actually classic tie if executed and worn properly, solid black satin.

Unfortunately, Kevin O'Leary on Shark Tank has given the black satin a negative connotation when I think of it - although I agree it can look nice when done correctly.

Can you clarify? What's the best way to pull off black satin?

I think this may be the start of a new blog post. My short answer is I think its good as a semi formal look thats smarter than daywear but less so than a dinner suit. IMO it should never be a substitute for a bow tie on a dinner suit, but I can see how the unfamiliarity of the bow tie frightens some people.

Black, blue and gun metal satin are great for "semi formal", other colors are rather tricky and so a shantung may be more suitable if you want to go for a solid vibrant color in a smoother finish.

I like the neat minimal footprint of the black satin tie here:

and here we see Prince Charles wearing a sharp looking satin tie at Reagan's funeral:

Think this could do with a narrower knot.

    TORONTO VISIT

Next Monday and Tuesday I will be in Toronto to see a new client. Hopefully this will be the genesis of regular trips to see clients in the area. The exact timing and hotel I have not finalized but I will be in Yorkville. If anybody would like to meet me to place a commission please feel free to contact me here or on my Email: [email protected]

    TORONTO VISIT.

I will be staying at the Sheraton hotel from Monday the 13th- Tuesday the 14th. If anyone would like to set up an appointment let me know ASAP as obviously my time in the city will be limited. I will be coming back for at least one fitting and there is also the option of shipping garments or doing fittings in NYC.

    Best,

    Dave.
