Are these Iron Rangers not the same ones that J. Crew is selling -- in the "Hawthorne Full Grain Leather?" How do these look with slim jeans, like a KMW 1980 or APC NS?

Someone posted fit pics of Iron Rangers with slim jeans on the SUFU WAYWT thread and tbh they didn't look so good. As another poster mentioned, they have quite a chunky profile and I think they're better suited to a more relaxed cut, like the IH 634 for example.

They are ugly period, i am not getting the appeal. They look like construction boots, not in a good way.

I think they would look really good with a jean that wasn't as slim at the bottom. They'd really work for me because I'm only about an 8.5 Which do you think would be the more versatile color, the amber or the hawthorne? I really like the hawthorne. I mostly wear jeans with navy, black, browns. I really need some type of black shoe/boot, but I love these and the red wing classic lifestyle. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I was just in the RW store today trying on the hawthorne rangers. Fit was similar to gentleman travelers, but much more comfortable (for some reason, the side stitching in the GT's digs into my feet). Anyway, what was suprising was how comfortable the cork sole was. Far more comfy than the leather/rubber of the GT's and leather soles in general imho.

For sizing, I own a pair of 875's in an 11, and the IR in 10.5 was perfect.

Also, in person the Hawthorne's are amazing. My friend was not convinced until he saw me try them on.

I really like the Hawthorne's. Do you think they would be destoyed by rain/snow? They look like seude, but somehow i'm guessing they are more rugged. would love to see a worn in pair.

The Hawthorne Rangers are made of a full grain leather upper right? I wonder how that would look with a nice slathering of LP... probably would look dope, smoother with dark inconsistencies depending on where you rubbed the LP on more, I want to buy a pair of these and try it [IMG]

There's an article on dubbing roughout boots here; also, an SF poster applied Obenauf's to a pair of nubuck Indies (pics) - you might get a similar effect with the Hawthorne IRs.

great article confab! I was familiar with the indies you showed, gave me the idea for these, definitely wanna try this tho! I want to see a worn in pair of dubbed boots tho... and perhaps instead of using polish as the article states, would do you guys think about pure bees wax? heated up a little or using the blow dryer technique... I think this would be a great replacement for the polish giving the shoe a unique look/texture and im sure the they would patina differently

You may have seen this already too, Bill from Stronghold got some interesting results heating layers of polish on roughout boots: http://www.superfuture.com/supertalk...postcount=9291
