Thank you for the answer!
I know y'all into boot porn. I just nabbed these at Nordstrom Rack for $99. Gently used. You should all get a pair at any price.
Oiling my black IRs has caused the white contrast stitching to become stained with black in several places, despite my being very careful about it. These things rubbed off black on everything the first couple of weeks. Anyone have any experience or suggestion getting the black off the white contrast stitching?
How do these stack up to the Katahdin? Im debating between the two and obviously most people are gonna go with the IR's but is the price difference worth it?
I own both: the details and materials are better on the IR, no question. Both are well-made, and I can see both lasting for many, many years.
The leather on the katahdin gets roughed up pretty easily, and is certainly an exclusively "casual" boot. The IR's can be dressed up to a certain extent, but they do lean towards the casual side of the spectrum.
Both are solid, if money is an issue the Katahdin's are an excellent value for the money. The IR's are the better boot, though, IMO.
Yes this is not a B&S thread. But I thought I'd give advance warning here. I've got a pair of Hawthorne IR size 10.5D worn 10-15 times with an insole that are too big for me. I'm looking for 180 shipped (from Canada). Drop me a PM if your intersed and I'll send you pics.
I posted before about sizing down one full size in IRs. I have narrow feet, so with wider I'd say a half. I have since broken them in, and they're awesome. Wearing them with some APC petit standards, which in my opinion are the perfect cut for them. Slim/straight.
Good luck with yours, this thread helped out a lot.
Anyone looking for a pair of amber Iron Rangers in 7.5EE? I just bought a very lightly used pair from a member on here, but the fit isn't 100%.
I thought the 7.5 would fit me as I wear an 8 in both other boots (Katahdin) and dress shoes, but I get a fair amount of heel slippage. Everything else fits nicely (the width, and the toebox area).
I've been considering using a Superfeet insole to possibly "reduce" the size a bit, but I'm not sure how effective that is. I read a post online saying the slippage is normal and the boots will conform to my feet.
Meanwhile I've collected the most beautiful pair's of red wings the only one's missing are the Engineer boots...... I really love the brand and to me it stand's for freedom and independence...
anyone know the difference between amber and amber harness>
Just ordered a 9D and and 8.5D. Quick question about stretch and sizing on these:
8.5D fits right foot perfect, left foot is just slightly crammed in the toebox, width-wise. The length is fine.
9D fits right foot decently (very slight heel slip), left foot loosely (more heelslip).
Best move is the 8.5D, because it will stretch, correct? Or should I keep the 9D and get insole?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Crammed as in the shoe running too short or too narrow? If the latter, return both and get 8.5E.
I'm a huge fan of Iron Rangers (see avatar...). I've gone through different chukkas but wanted a more classic, high quality leather boot that was a little more casual than the Gentleman Traveller or a Wolverine 1000 mile boot. I've treated them with mink oil a couple of times, and they are probably the most comfortable shoes or boots I own.
Question: anybody know if you can have red wing's "iron ranger" sole & heel put onto a pair of their 875s? I've been wearing my 875s for a year and i love 'em, but i've always had a preference for a heel, and I think the sole looks great too.
So can I put this sole & heel:
...onto this boot:
Thanks for any input!
You can send your shoes back to Red Wing for resole, and you can specify what sole to put on it. I remember seeing a price list of different soles somewhere, and the prices are pretty reasonably. You can email Red Wing and ask them about it, they reply to email fairly quickly in my experience.
I don't think Iron Ranger's sole would look good on the 875 though...
