Hello all,

This is my first post on the Style Forum, and I'm looking for some advice on a new pair of boots I purchased. I've been wearing them for about two weeks now and I they're really great. The Red Wing Iron Ranger boots looks good, feel good, and they seem to be breaking in well. However, I was told by the dealer not to worry about oiling them for the first month so I paid no attention to applying Mink Oil, which is recommended.

As you can see in the photo I've attached, I've noticed some cracking starting to occur in various areas of the boot. I applied Red Wing Mink Oil today in the hopes that this will stop. I don't think this should occur having only worn the boots for about two weeks.

Does anyone have advice for me? Your help is much appreciated!

Best regards,
Jeff

That looks more like creasing than cracking. If it doesn't penetrate the surface, that's just natural in leather boots/shoes. You're gonna have to learn to live with the look.

Exactly. This is what Red Wings and work boots do. Even dress shoes crease (though in fewer areas perhaps.) I momentarily wanted to keep my Red Wings in perfect shape, but that is like keeping a mountain bike clean or a record unopened.

Yeah I'm beginning to learn more about leather boots the more I read about them, i was just concerned that they might be cracking on me. I'll keep oiling them and cleaning them to ensure their lifespan! thanks again.
