I was under the impression most here recommended sizing down 1/2 from the usual dress shoe size...The only advantage I could get by sizing down 1 full size is that there'd be no mistaking if it's too small!

Anyone else care to chime in? Will probably get them from getoutside as suggested by another member: http://www.getoutsideshoes.com/product.php?id=1080

I sized down 1/2, and I'm good. Others sized down 1.

Just go with your gut. If they are too big, do what Get Smart suggested, put an insole in. They will be 10x more comfortable this way.

+1 Yup, thought it safer that way too. I'll post comments on fit when I receive them.

These are insanely stiff... I was wearing shit socks in them yesterday from 10am to 10pm and my feet hurt like hell... next time I'll definitely wear a thicker sock.

    Any recommendations?

you wear a 10 in Chucks and 8 in AE?? that's bizarre and no wonder you're confused. I wear the same size in both (and I'm betting nearly everyone else does too), and hence a half size down in Red Wing GT

put it this way, I would get whatever UK size your PS 'ricard' boots are and add ½ to it for Red Wings. If that's not avail, you could probably just go with the UK Ricard size in American Red Wing size, tho YMMV.

Go into some shoe stores and try on some american dress shoes or better yet, let the mall dude measure your foot. get the red wings in a size 1/2 smaller than your measurment.

I sized down one whole size from my normal shoe size.

After the bleeding stopped (there is a tough-guy callous there now), they are perfect. I sized half down from my dress shoe size. They are comfortable, they look great. They feel like they mold more to the shape of my foot each time I wear them. Or maybe I foot is deforming into the shape of GTs.

btw, you can buy your regular size if the ½ size down option isnt avail. My black cherry GTs are my regular shoe size (½ size larger than they should be for GT) and I just bought one of those $15 gel insoles and it fits like a glove with no looseness.

If I ever buy a pair again I will size down a complete size from my true foot size.

I bought a pair of GTs today for a durable but semi-fashionable winter boot. I wanted something similar to the Ricards, but the only thing I could find in my price range (Varvatos on sale) was sold out in my size. I'll just wait until Boxing Day or the PS sale in January to pick up a more fashionable boot.

Anyways, the point of my post: there's a store in Toronto, Get Outside, that is selling the GTs in black and cherry for $179 CAD plus $15 to ship to the US (free shipping within Canada).

I think I can help here...

    For dress shoes I have:

    9D AE Hale
    9D AE Taunton (Borderline loose.)
    9D AE Bel Air
    9D AE Mora (Borderline loose.)
    9D AE Soho
    8.5 AE Soho (Borderline tight.)

I bought an 8 in the Red Wing GT and I'm very happy I did, as they fit perfectly in my opinion. (They required a bit of fighting to get into for the first week or so, but they're absolutely perfect now.)

I suggest sizing 1 down for the GT if you have a narrow or normally wide foot.

That's how I would do it if I bought a pair again, one size down from your true foot size.

I sized down 1/2, and I'm good. Others sized down 1.

Just go with your gut. If they are too big, do what Get Smart suggested, put an insole in. They will be 10x more comfortable this way.

Alright, I picked these up at the post office this evening...AWESOME boots. Now the dilemma: these definitely fit big vs. your true foot size (in case anyone reading still has a doubt), but I'm unsure whether just .5 big or 1 full size. I received a pair of 8.5 and am thinking I could size down to an 8. When I walk around, I don't feel my heels touching the heel counter as there's approximately a 5mm gap. The toe area feels fine; while there's wiggle room up front, I don't think my feet could slide up any further into the toebox because of the width.

Basically, if these weren't ankle boots, I might get heel lift. With leather soled dress shoes, this is reduced as the shoe breaks in. Should I expect the same with these?

The only thing that I can say for sure is: THANKS GAVIN for the link to getoutside.com, can't beat $179CAD shipped!

What sorts of pants do people like to pair their black cherry GTs with? Unfortunately my only jeans with a big enough hem for these boots are faded to a point that the blue really doesn't go well with the black cherry.

Actually, I'll wear mine with my current denim of choice: H&M Sliq rinsed denim 32x32. Slim fitting without being skintight/feminine.

Regular Ralf and bootcut ola are the only jeans that I have wit a big enough hem. Definitely down wear them with APCs or the will look like clown shoes.

Try making an acct with a US address. If you live outside the EU, you don't pay VAT.
