Gentlemen

I would appreciate your comment on the attached cashmere jacket made by Lebow clothes and with a union made tag "Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union" (counts something in my book). I remember seeing red plaid jackets in the 1980, but no sports coats recently. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, but would appreciate comments before wearing it out much (my own tastes can't always be relied upon) . Are similar jackets being sold? The sleeves need adjustment, but any other changes? I assume it would go with solid black, grey, or white. It was only $30 so no offense at negative reviews. Thanks.

It seems that it could be a little small in the chest. I would consider letting it out a touch.

It will certainly be an eccentricity, but what isn't?

I haven't thought of the phrase "a loud jacket" in quite some time. It would certainly be at home for holiday parties and wherever cigars are smoked.

Actually I think it's pretty cool, but you've got to think like you own a large yacht.

I'm pictureing a white linen shirt, silk ascot, khakies and boat shoes.
or navy pants, light blue shirt, white pocket square

as for fit, sleeves shortened obviously, but I also think the chest looks a bit too narrow, hence the lapels popping out. see how the collar sits up on your neck when it's buttoned up? too tight in the waist just below the chest so it sits back off your neck.
Maybe a tad long but def workable.

If you're in Alabama and a fan of the football team its perfect. You could probably even wear it on the 4th of July there

I like it. I'm assuming it's wool and not synthetic though...

There is not much margin for era with a jacket like that (black watch would be much easier), and you'll need to look confident and together otherwise it won't work. For your age, there seem to be three possible ways of wearing it:

** Italian style: white shirt, navy tie, navy slacks, dark brown/reddish oxfords
** Costa del whereever style: open necked white shirt, cream slacks, blue(?) topsiders
** Weekend brunch: open necked white/light blue shirt, nice jeans, nice shoes

Whichever way, I would not wear anything black with it, cos there is no black in the tartan. I don't think it would work as one of those dinner / smoking jackets. Cut is wrong.

Lebow cashmere flannel tartan odd jackets like yours were proffered on Palm Beach's Worth Avenue in the '80s - have forgotten the shop, could have been Trillion, but think not. It's kind of a senior gent's cut of the era. Veto the buttons.

Foggy grey flannel trousers
Oxford Cloth or end-on-end or fine chambray blue shirt
Open collar or Scottish critter woven emblematic tie
Brown suede or patinated tan shoes
Irish wolfhound

Thanks guys. What do you suggest on the buttons?
