I need help with trying out this shirt colour. Let me know if either of these bow ties compliment my outfit. I will be wearing this shirt, light grey pants, black shoes and belt. Please give me some advice. Thank You!

Ties of any sort are meant to be worn with jackets. If you aren't wearing a jacket don't wear a tie. On the other hand I'd venture to say that nothing could make that shirt look good. Then again, I've seen some members here make the strangest stuff look good. A bowtie is not the way, however.

Thanks for the advice. I was on the fence about wearing a bow tie in the first place. My other option was just my skinny black tie. Just keep it simple

Let me rephrase. NO TIE WITHOUT A JACKET! On the other hand, you are a sovereign human being and may do as you like.

Honestly, if it was me, and I were forced to wear that shirt, I'd wear it with white linen trousers on a hot day. Maybe some loafers and a sun hat, bingo! Sweet spot. That shirt absolutely cries out to be tieless.

Oh, sorry haha I was just letting you know what my other option was. I think I will take your advice and go tie-less. Thanks again!

If one must, out of some sort of business necessity--and this is prescribed attire on some jobs, wear a shirt and tie sans coat, I actually think the bowtie is a preferable look.

Yeah. It's a very informal shirt that *might* work with something light white or very pale tan linen pants, and perhaps even a suit of that color.

Skinny black tie with that = horrendous.
Red or purple bow tie with that suit = clownish.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
