Anyone know how feasable re-cutting a pair of suit pants are. I was just on e-bay and found a new Zegna su misura suit. The jacket is the right size, however the pants are 8 inches too big.(very weird body type the waist is bigger than the chest if the suit is described correctly) I bought it with the hopes of being able to have the pants recut to a normal size. Anyone have any experience with this?

BTW i paid 105 for the suit so even if i pay to re-cut the pants imo i'm ahead. the wool itself is worth 100.00

Any tailor who can do the job right is going to charge a lot for it. Basically, they are going to have to make an entirely new pair of pants out of the fabric.

As cvac has said, you can make new trousers using the cloth. We ( Winston tailors/ Chipp 2 ) made President John F Kennedy's cloths. After his assasination we recut a number of suits for his brother Robert. He paid us more than he would have paid us to make new suits. As a practicle matter, if the cloth is only worth $100 it is not worth doing. The cloth in good suits usually costs more than $100 a yard. And to think, some forum members have issue with purchasing second hand items on the BS forum.

this sounds like a orphan jacket and orphan trousers thats been paired up. be careful the cloth on the two may shade off differently.
if you want to see how a recut is done.go to search on ask andy type in to alter trousers scroll down to that title.

"a tailor" may be on to something here. With the amount of money and work involved in making the suit fit you, you probably didn't get much of a deal as you thought you did.

Paul's point about it costing more than to make a pair of pants from scratch makes sense...think about it: they are going to have to rip the seams out of those pants and take them completely apart, then remake an entirely new pair of pants from scratch. It would be less labor to make new pants from uncut cloth.

You could try contacting Zegna to see if the fabric is still available, but it might not match even if the fabric is "the same" b/c different lots of fabric are sometimes a little different even though they're supposed to be the same fabric.
