Rectangular watch recommendation

Mrs Cowley's brother is getting married. I told him ages ago I'd get him a proper watch, and he has now requested a rectangular watch with a black leather strap. Perfectly reasonable, but I'm not getting him a Reverso because, well, I'm cheap. Can the forum recommend an automatic Swiss watch, preferably by an established house, which fulfill the above criteria for under two thousand pounds? Price limit is not absolute.

Thank you for your help!

Get a second-hand Reverso - you'll find one around your price point. You can even find a new handwind Classique at your price

I have a baume et mercier Hampton that I really like. Really reasonably priced and they come in several sizes for all different wrists. That said, my reverso gets the nod most times when I need a dressier watch. (and often when I don't.)

Please don't buy a B&M. Buy the JLC, this really is a case where the little bit extra in price counts.
