I had been looking for a pair of 3/4 length insoles to improve the fit on a couple of pairs of shoes that have too much room across the instep. Felt tongue pads had failed to make much of a difference in fit. Unfortunateley, the insoles I had found so far are the foam/rubber type which are actually too thick in the heel area to wear in most dress shoes...

So I was at Wal-Mart over the weekend to pick up some household items and wandered into the shoe section to get another pair of rubber overshoes... While there, I found a pair of Bergal Forte 3/4 length insoles. They are leather covered, thin and unobtrussive. I believe the middle is made of some sort of thermoplastic. They basically look like a custom orthotic. I'm wearing them this morning in my Loake Strand and am amazed at the difference in fit. All that for $6! Unfortunately, they only had one pair left in my size.

If you're looking to tweak the fit of shoes with too much volume across the instep, I suggest you look into a pair of these: http://www.bergal.de/sortiment_sohlen.php?l=EN&p=29

Link above is to the Forte Bequem insole, while the packaging for mine simply states Forte. Product code is the same though (7020). Highly recommended! If someone finds a pair of men's size 9/42, shoot me a pm.
