That’s a beautiful coat. I don’t know if this matters to you (because you’d rather stand out than blend in), but Vancouver has an outdoorsy, fitness vibe. Lots of people who run and hike and do yoga. You’ll see many of these:

Hehe, I don’t mind, but if I’m going to buy one rain coat I prefer something I can use around here too hehe.

If you like to spend time outside, bring rain pants in addition to a waterproof “shell” jacket. You’ll enjoy your time more if you’re not in soggy jeans all day.

Patagonia, North Face and REI all have good offerings.

Rain pants, never heard of them, will look for them, thanks!

I live in Vancouver too. Don’t overthink it too much. We don’t live in igloos or ride dogsleds, here. Most people don’t own winter tires.

I echo what others have said. Wear a comfortable pair of pants, bring something water resistant if you plan on doing some day trips. Bring something nice if you plan on going out for dinner, but be warned- Even if you go to Hawksworth for dinner, it’ll be mostly jeans and Canucks jerseys, at least it was when I’ve been there.

Try:
St.Laurence (French/Québécois)
Ask For Luigi (Italian)
Vij’s (Indian)
Peaceful (Chinese)
Jade (Dim Sum)

Nice! We’ve been already looking to what places we should visit, my girlfriend saw the Christmas Market (sadly it will be closed because we arrive the 25th) but when I saw the video, a lot of people were wearing some heavy overcoats and that made me think about the rain coat hehe.

I'll chime in here as well, only to agree with all the other Vancouver-based SF folks.

Generally I wear wool trousers and wool sport coats with a light-ish wool overcoat or trench when I get a bit dressy or cotton/corduroy trousers and a cotton shirt with merino v-neck topped with a lightly insulated synthetic jacket (Massimo Dutti) when casual.

I wear boots with either Dainite or leather soles quite a bit (and avoid puddles with leather) and a wool flat cap.

I recommend an umbrella when you're walking around if you don't mind carrying them around. There are many inexpensive collapsible options available most everywhere.

It doesn't snow that often, and when it does, it often doesn't amount to too much downtown (assuming that's where you'll be spending most of your time).

I can't add much to the sartorial suggestions above - I find it's a bit of a wasteland here and buy most of my CM clothing from other sources outside of Vancouver. Casual stuff from BR and Massimo mostly when I buy it.

There are many great restaurants all over the Vancouver area with many different price points - too many to mention, and so many sushi places (almost all great) it will make you head spin.

I'd suggest checking out the Capilano Suspension Bridge park Canyon Lights attraction (a single bus ride from downtown) - quite a spectacular Christmas light display. There's also the Christmas market downtown as well as other things to do that might not yet be announced.

I'd be happy to offer other suggestions if you like - I work downtown and live on the North Shore (near the aforementioned Capilano Suspension Bridge park). DM me if you want to connect while you're here.

Thanks Chris! Let me DM you. Will take your recommendations into account to buy some clothes. Was going to purchase an SS raincoat but wasn't available in my size.
