Google trench adverts from the first world war...
And if you only comeback with only Burberry double breasted examples you are being disingenuous and selective...

I stick to my previous comment.
Does this meet the criteria above? No, but it's a first world war trench coat...

There were hundreds of suppliers with different versions, but they were all advertised as trench coats unless they were something different such as a regulation rain coat...

I am not a military expert, but because he's not an officer he's been written out of history with all the brands focusing on "Officers and Gentleman"..

Obviously, I'm a fan of Burberry. I own three, including one I bought decades ago but which is now a vintage trench coat. My opinion is, if you want the real thing, buy the real thing, not a copy. As far as trench coats go, Burberry is the real thing, the quintessence. If you are okay with a copy, no problem, but a copy can never be the real thing.
Fair enough. I would like to try vintage Burberry in deadstock condition.
For the moment I prefer modern interpretations by Coherence to new Burberry models.

What regiment cap badge? It looks like a Grenadier Guards, but not quite right.
BTW, looks like the young Cole Porter
