Can anyone recommend me a thin cotton undershirt? I have some old fruit of the loom undershirts that are thin, but have only gotten so because I've had them so long. All those washes have really thinned them out. My wife wants to put them to use as cleaning rags!

I've tried calvin kleins, munsingwears, hanes and they are soft and all, but the cotton is so thick that I can't wear them on hot days. Is there a thin cotton undershirt that is thin right out of the package?

PS. I looked at that undershirt guy blog and he had no recommendations for a thin cotton undershirt.

I converted to the practice of wearing undershirts a year ago. Swear by Uniqlo now (heattech). Very thin, very comfortable.

Uniqlo etc are nowhere near the same quality as that new Jockey material in ribbed fabric (micro something). So light that when you were it, it's hard to tell you're wearing anything! And take it from someone in the tropics: it's the BEST sweat absorbing thing I've ever worn. In Toronto last year, it served as an under-lining that didn't make me look all blown up either, it's indistinguishable from second skin.

H&M. they're thin, cheap ($5.95), and come in a wide variety of colors and shapes (deep v-neck and very deep v-neck).

Looks like I'm checking out those H&Ms first. Then I'll look into those new micro fabrics. Thanks!

If you can find them on the cheap, the boxed HB shirts are amazing undershirts. The shallow V and crew are both decently fitted and very thin, and blindingly white. IIRC they're around $29 for a two pack.

Went to a Marshall's at lunchtime and may have found a suitable candidate. They are DKNY crew neck t shirts. They are very soft and thin. Haven't washed one so I'm not sure how they'll hold up. Also, the tail is long, which helps is good for them not riding up your back. Really happy so far. I was able to find an open package, which was marked down to $7 for 3 shirts. The regular price @ marshalls is $14.99. MSRP is $29.50. I think these are the ones:

Check the reviews as others agree that these are very thin.

I'll still try to get one of those micro fabrics @ macy's just for comparison's sake. Hope this helps someone...

Have you considered a merino wool type such as the Icebreaker Beast line?

Thanks for the suggestion, hayward. A quick google search showed me that the cheapest undershirt is $50 (!). That's a little out of my budget.
