I want to get a pair of boat shoes for a summer in greece and italy, but I've found the classic thin-slab-o-rubber sole supremely uncomfortable. Can anyone recommend a classic looking boat shoe that is actually comfortable?

I have had a pair of Mephistos for 4 years and find them amazingly comfortable-- I believe the new ones have some kind of gel sole-- which i fine aesthetically less pleasing but i'm sure are very comfortable as well. Also-- they have great resole/refurbish programs that get your shoes looking/feeling just like new.

i also have a few pairs of Ralph Lauren boat shoes-- from last season which i find very comfortable as well and come in a variety of different colors etc.

both are very classic

They are, but A said he found them uncomfortable.

If I was going for the old Sperry look, I would get Quoddies instead.

I was looking at the leather Sperrys on Zappos since the canvas ones turn my achilles into hamburger meat.. They look comfortable.

Yup, well while riding on a sailboat while my brothers-in-law do the sailing.

Those Lobbs are nice, what are they called?

Ecco sailor shoes have thick rubber soles and are great to walk in

If they are for sailing, most of the people I know who yacht swear by dubarrys - "Dubs" not tried them myself.

These will work for that. Lobb Trinidads.

Extra points if they get salt stained.
