hey guys...thought this might be a good topic for discussion since many of us have/will be feeling the effects of the recent economic 'downturn'. how will the slowing economy effect your clothing purchases in the coming months? do you feel your perception of value has been forever changed? i, for one, cant go back to spending the way i used to after seeing the prices in stores this past xmas season....

Aside from the odd tie or PS here and there I'll probably cut back to buying only that which I need, when I need it from my favourite bargain basements.

the correct word you are trying to use is "affect"

Sorry, it's a pet peeve and I just had to do it.

As far as the original question, the recession has made me realize that I do in fact have all the clothing/shoe items that I need.....all except the right pair of suede derby, and maybe a couple more knit ties, and maybe a linen square with contrasting edge.

It seems that every week I hear about a new car manufacturer firing K's of employees on different locations. For some clothing companies this is an opportunity to not ***** their prices that high to customers when they're paying cents to some indonesians/chinese/taiwanese guy

I feel the same way too but I'm trying to take advantage of all of these sales and promotions these retailers are offering. Its so hard to turn down but you pace yourself in whatever way possible

I'm getting more into vintage. Instead of going to Barney's and buying the black leather bomber jacket for $1,200. I found a great old one at a vintage store for $75. and am renovating it myself. Fun project, great kick-ass jacket...

With governments around the globe conducting trillion-dollar bailouts, they are essentially printing money which will lead to inflation. One could argue that it makes sense to buy classic, long term items now because they will be much more expensive in the not-so-distant future. Following this logic, it makes sense to pick up selected items at deep discounts, like classic shoes, cufflinks, and the like.

Hi,
My clients since September-October 2008 would like to order more absolutely classical items.
There is absolutely classical briefcases, belts with no any fashion details.
Only wallets could contains any fantasy and creative elements and combinations.
And my clients would like more expensive materials: crocodile, best calf skin.
I think peoples like to buy things with long working term
and dislike one-seasons items in recession time.
The cheep and fashion editions of leather accessory are absolutely not popular in my
workshop now.

this seems to be the general trend...people moving towards essential purchases where value and longevity is king...
