I've definitely cut back on purchases as of late, but that has more to do with my $5000 tax bill due to independent contracting 4Q2007 than anything else.

It doesn't affect me at all.

I'm a bit more irresponsible than most. I just sell more Legos at a more rapid pace and sell it to UK and Europe whose currencies are doing strong. So no. In fact, each Chan visit gets more expensive than the last. I will, however, need to find a job soon since my volunteership will end at my optometry office. It'll be nice to actually make money for work instead of working for free. In fact, I'm in the market for a nice pair of shoes. My last shoes purchase was made in high school (and they still look good).

I've definitely cut back all-around thanks to $3.50/gallon gas.

I hate to say this, but no.

In fact, I just switched jobs (people hire more consultants in bad economies) and just this year, I've gotten myself two new suits, one sport coat, one overcoat, three pairs of shoes (including an Allen Edmonds pair) and at least ten shirts and ties.

Touch wood and all that.

That said, I have decided to cut down on my spending, at least until it is bonus time anyway.

Wow, you guys are lucky. I am earning more than last year doing at home eBay than I did working at a biotech lab. But it's not by much. Especially since working at biotech labs don't make that much in general (unless you have a PhD). I'd love to know what you guys do.

Myself, I can't wait to get to optometry school and live like a student again and not worry about clothes. Actually, not true, we have to wear trousers, shirts, and ties in clinic. I have a feeling I'll be the only one wearing trousers, shirts, and ties to class and wearing a full suit to clinic. I also have a feeling I will be wearing a bespoke lab coat with hacking pockets, a ticket pocket, and a lapel with 2.5 button roll. But still white and cheap cotton.

I'm buying extra stuff! Our dollar is worth over 100US cents! Only a few years ago it was around 60US cents. Stuff is starting to get really cheap.

yeah definetly cut back but not due to fear of job loss, but more because of the gas prices; it's interferring with my hobbies which I want to take up again since warmer weather is here. I'll probably only buy things to replace other things that are nearing their end life, but will still hunt hard for any suit bargains at the outlet stores. I'll also probably be looking at ebay alot more as well (which I'm not a fan of but hey, you do fine some good bargains there). You'll see more ebay auctions being bidded on I bet.

The trick is to earn in Euros or Pounds.

I was gearing up (saving up) to buy my first 8-1,200 suit...but my good friend is losing her House, and i'm thinking it'll be better to save that money for my own rainy day.

If anything, i realize I need to be doing something to get me into a higher bracket.

I hope so. I for one will be buying more on ebay simply because sales tax seems to go up every year. Illinois will have 10.25% just in time for Christmas. The downtown shopping district will have 11%. I heard that on the radio the other day and just about spit out my coffee. It is already 9% and that's bad enough. I think people will turn to online marketplaces like forums and ebay because they have more control over the rising cost.
