1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

you realize that every garment design has a specific origin point, yeah? are you robbing levi's every time you buy a pair of riveted jeans?

who came up with the first j-cut, even? i have no idea. i think it might be attachment but i'm not confident in that answer.

Levi's doesn't make a cut that works for me and the quality is generally worse. I just don't see any improvement or changes... not everything has to be ground breakingly new. Meh, I guess maybe the cut is different. I don't care enough to compare measurements. It just seems odd that we give certain brands a lot of shit for copying others, but this gets a pass.

    For example:
    Penfield's Nigel Cabourn cameraman ripoff
Shades of Greige or (or is it Gray, I forget) copies a majority of every collection
    the various 5 zip copies

and we're not even getting into fast fashion like the 2342343 Marant high top ripoffs etc. that everybody wrings their hands about. How do you make the distinction? Are we just considering these an interpretation of an item type rather than an appropriation of design?

Because as mentioned, those are unique pieces that you instantly recognize and "link" to specific brands.
While with j cuts, like brad said, I honestly have no idea which brand made the og ones so they are just some cool pants among the hundreds of other cool pants out there

Eh, that seems a bit unfair. Twisted seams, jeans in that shape, have been around for awhile now. Today I'm wearing a similar pair of Levi's Engineered from the 90's; IIRC they also hyped the 'J' shape in their advertising, long before whatever SF-approved brand you have in mind.

Yeah. And in the case of Shades of Greige it's basically all they do. While the J-cut is a little more distinctive than slim/tapered or something, I don't think every new denim brand needs to come up with unique cuts for their jeans.

I liked their kickstarter because it explained the purpose of the j-cut (to create cool stacks)

Yeah I bought 3 pairs for less than $150 at the flagship store in Soho. Would not pay retail.

Our Legacy 'Classic Coat'. Cool coat with the typical Our Legacy cut (slim arms + loose, blouse-y body). Really thick and study feeling wool with twill-like diagonal ridges. I could see this cut working for a really wide range of styles. Unfortunately, due to the slim sleeves, I can't really layer under it like I was hoping, but I still think I'll keep it.

I still want a pair of those deadstock authentics with the Winnie the Pooh pattern, but these will do in the meantime
