Lol I didn't do it to kiss ass. I did it because I wanted to, I'm just sly and had a good response and he liked it.

and yes, there is plenty of kissing ass to get into medical school. You can't 'get by' you need all A's.

Teger-yeah I didn't mean all professors nor did I mean it in a superficial sense. I mean it as it's refreshing for some professors (of old school thought, the dapper looking ones) to see students put together.

I DO go to school in a southern state though, so that may have something to do w/ it. 2 years ago I had a professor tell a classmate to take off his hat in his class or GTFO.

I didn't do any of that ****, barely spoke to any of my profs, definitely some that didn't know my name, and I did just fine.

I am happy with my grades, I might just have to start talking to profs more in the third year especially with the smaller class sizes

TBH I like talking to my professors, I don't look at it as a hassle or anything. I'm just a social person so it's no big deal for me. IDK, I guess it's just my mindset, I like talking to people and it ends up working to my advantage. Some science professors are ridiculously smart.....

OK, can somebody post a recent purchase that's clothing related :embar:

yes it turns out that ******* around in school, skipping your classes and never talking to the professor because you bolt for the door as soon as the class ends doesn't really bode well for your academic future.

no i meant the fact that society rewards suck ups (of course also hardwork like you do), I have a 3.4 gpa if you average it with my other school I transferred from (when i actually cared bout schoolwork). I just dont care about school anymore cuz im finishing up and just want to continue working in my current field.

well, in my case I've had professors give me a break on assignments ive missed cuz they like my way of thinking (in line with theirs). I've also had professors in economics that say curving is socialist, and they purposely also fail people who share opinions that contest with theirs. Its just really annoying cuz you end up writing everything to make sure it fits their world view, **** academia, or maybe just the humanities side of it.

you also have schools that have departments like mine where people get curved every class and got like 60% all throughout school and get curved to a 3.0+ which is bullshit, and just shows this is just a business, and people are being handed degrees. I'm a political science major but I just found out about this cuz im failing a econ class and im getting curved to a high C, lmao.

btw, in case anyone tries to say im just an angsty dude, my academic advisor told me all of this, she told me the whole economics department operates like this, and the business school too.

I guess but by 'sucking up' you get more than just a nudge in grades, which for most professors is, I think, why they'll do that anyway. If you're sitting alert in the front row every day, staying ten minutes after class and going to all the study sessions you're going to get more for yourself than just a grade boost and pats on the back.

Yeah I mean you're paying for that time, that experience and you want to use it to the fullest. Even if you think the professor is an idiot, just try to consume everything that is going on in the class. At least in raw science type classes (thermo / mechanics of solids / calc 1-4 / discreet math / statistics) what was discussed in class is typically what was on the test, even down to specific problems. There was a clear advantage to being a kid that spent the time in class and ignored books, instead of sleeping in from a WoW raid, missing class then cramming using books before the test.

I wasn't the only one that did that so I know I'm not crazy

i think most college students don't realize that their college fate is in their hands. nobody really cares if you pass or fail.

that's funny. i felt like towards the end of my university years did the professors starting profusely saying "you have already paid for your time here so use it" lol

i felt like i did poorly every time i engaged the professors and even more so when speaking with classmates.
i did a lot better just reading through the textbook by myself and only selectively asked questions among professors when needed.

perhaps talking with professors did let them know who i was in a smaller class setting, but i always felt like after speaking with them, they saw my side of the argument and would grade me harder

didn't care my last 2 quarter and saw GPA dropped from 3.7 to 3.5 : (
