1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Stitch if you don't mind me asking, what is the reasoning behind this in the bible?

As an addition, how strict is the rule?

My understanding is that Jews, like Catholics, vary in the spectrum of those who follow the Bible (v1 or v2, whatever floats your boat) to the nth degree.

Those were my favorite Jordans. I think mine (the originals back in the day) had burgundy on them, though.

there are laws in the bible that have a "reason" (in quotations because according to religious jewish law, commandments are to be followed regardless of any logical understanding, they are to be followed because they are the law, and the word of G-d), and then there are laws there have no explainable reason, its just the law. this is one of those laws.

there is a spectrum of what laws various people choose to follow, as we are all given free choice. however, like all other jewish laws, the law is the law. its just as strict as any other. its not allowed. if someone chooses not to to follow, that is a personal choice. and there are sects of jews that believe many, or all, of the biblical laws were not meant to be practical or followed literally or if they were that was for generations past. but for those who are orthodox and follow the laws, there is no out. it must be adhered to.

this is all just my personal beliefs as a religious orthodox jew, and i in no way mean to offend anyone with a different belief set. as well, sorry for the derail.

So with this said, you can't / won't even try the garment on prior to having procedure101 done? That is commitment right there, and also a huge leap of faith.

ah, trying something on is allowed actually. the prohibition is against wearing the garment as ones clothing. another example, if a jewish merchant is selling wares with shatnez (ostensibly to non jews) he may model the garment in order to sell it.

in that light, one might say the law is not so strict, in that there are a few scenarios where it does not apply. but within the area where is does apply, which is wearing the garment as ones clothing, there is no out.

also not intended to offend is the fact this is not a derail . . . . it's a peek behind the curtain of stitch.

Sounds like the Jewish grocers that would not eat pork, but sold pork in their stores?

similar, yes. though the laws of being in the pork business is more stringent than being in the shatnez business. there are certain rabbinical decrees limiting a religious jews dealings in the pork business.
