What nonsense. The English brought their style to India. Shirts, Indian style suits (Nehru collar) cashmeres and silks were actually copied or used by them in their outfits. Let's not forget about paisley patterns etc.

American expression as to be an ironic cliche'. Google the expression
and you'll get numerous examples.
