A few years ago I flew from Cannes to NYC. What struck me about the airport at Nice was how polished and professional everyone was - agents to bag handlers to cleaning staff. Actually commented about this to my wife. Lovely location may have something to do with that.

Then we landed at JFK. It was like landing in a fucking train station in India at rush hour. Actually, I've done that and it was a damn sight better than JFK.

What the subways need is another Bloomberg-like ego "screw you guys, I know best and am doing what I want" and just simply start over. Rip it all out and just keep the holes. Also needs a mind shift on the part of users to stop throwing their garbage on the tracks and treating it like a sewer. I think that one is close.

Every single time I fly, it makes me mad at how terrible our airports are. Just fucking awful.

The new Delta gates at LGA and Terminal 5 at JFK aren't too bad, but for example the American gates at LGA or the Delta gates at JFK are another level of Hell.

I was frisked/patted down by a 400lbs african american male TSA agent in JFK last september. he was hyperventilating at one point bending over patting down my ankles and almost fell down.... sadly when he tried to bend back up he actually did fall over. I tried to hold him up but I was in socks and legs spread and he keeled over very smoothly (since he was so round).

the other TSA agents were actually laughing. i guess it was some sort of hazing.

This dog shit tangent shows again how so many folks have no clue how worse NYC used to be.

I love that movie though it did give me second thoughts about coming to the city at the time.

The production ran into quite a few issues with real gangs.

One of the best movie posters ever - it was banned some places

The DJ was a highlight for me. The way she was framed and lit. Her voice. All perfect.

A bizarre film that actually does a great job depicting "fun city-era" NYC falling apart:

Wolfen (1981) Albert Finney and Gregory Hines are NYC cops fighting against Indians who shape shift into wolves and kill corporate execs.

    Yes, that's the plot.

But a lot of it is shot in the South Bronx when the South Bronx resembled Dresden after the War, and the Financial District which was still seedy even after the WTC went up.

There a very fucked-up movie directed by Warhol pal, Paul Morrissey, called Forty Deuce that follows Kevin Bacon as a gay hooker in Times Square who "sells" a young boy to a business man played by Orson Bean. I saw the premiere at a film festival, but don't think it was ever released.

This seems pretty accurate for the times. "I take people to the Bronx, Brooklyn, I take them to Harlem - I don't care."
