I have some good friends who live nearby here in Bklyn who are from Ithaca. I was up there for their wedding. Nice town.

Too bad it's a 7 thousand hour drive. I liked lake placid, but if I ever had to go again (from NYC) I'd fly.

it's around 3.5 hours, and the drive is easy. Not bad for a weekend trip.

I live a block from the Big Apple BBQ event and definitely planned on not being around this weekend.

Lake placid is great, either summer or winter for skiing, but I'd only make the trip on a long weekend.

I don't mind a festival or parade, but those fucking idiotic street fairs with their shitty food and tchotchke stalls are too much.

    I so hate those

The sole fact that the shitty San Gennaro festival blocks Mulberry St is allowed to go on for ELEVEN days is all you need to prove that corruption is alive and well in NYC.

we're thinking about doing a LP trip later on this summer. The town is apparently very dog friendly, so that's nice.

they do have major things like the Iron Man and Running Races there. Its very popular for cyclists/triathletes/runners to rent houses and do huge group trips there even just to train/vacation.

What on earth would you possibly need to do on Mulberry Street...unless you live/work there.

Lake Placid is one of my favorite places in NYS.

I'm off to Rochester for a wedding. Never been. I hear I need to see the George Eastman House and the University of Rochester campus.

I just text'd my friend. This is where they got married...right outside Ithaca:

    http://www.jjande.com

Great venue. The wedding was outdoor on the property in August or Sept(I forget.) The reception was under tents adjacent to where the ceremony was held.
We stayed overnight at a hotel appr 10 min away and a short walk from the strip where all of the college kids hang out with loads of bars.

The couple/family stayed at the inn. Great time. Lots of local brews at the wedding(not sure if the inn provided that or if it was requested by my friend.)

(Funny....I was just looking at some of the photo album pics and my friend(the bride) is featured in one.)

People who went to UofR say the campus is awesome. Alas, it is not.

yeah, lots of small breweries popping up there. And bigger breweries too (Ithaca Beer Co.)

I feel like a large number of those green "Ithaca is Gorges" t-shirts end up in Berkeley.

if I'm in Rochester, which I rarely am (wife's uncle and boyfriend live there), I'm much more likely to peace out and visit Geneva instead.

and then, in pure Manton fashion, visit Herman J. Wiemer winery
