Those fired are the lucky ones, they no longer have an escape to remain trapped in the hellish nightmare that is New York City. In NYC, the employed envy the jobless.

Just saw a thing on the NYT site: someone's usual 10 minute drive took 75 minutes. :wow:

That happens here in the Twin Cities... outside of rush hour down 94 I can get from home to office in 18... one accident or some snow and it can be 75 or more :foo:

Seriously though- NYC's hurting. A friend is just moving from here to Dumbo next week. Great timing.

Wow, that bad? Commuting in traffic is the worst. The only way I could do a 25 or 30 minute commute (that is my max) is if it's against the flow of rush hour on highways that aren't too busy in the first place. I'd rather do that than live 10 miles away and spend the same amount of time in the car.

It was a bit insane this morning in the city. Everyone is taking their car and the whole place is completely gridlocked. Not to mention that (a) these people never drive so they suck at driving, and (b) there's no power and street lights below 26th street, which makes it even more of a rodeo.

Where do they park? I never had the sense that NYC had ample parking...not enough to serve all the new commuters anyway.

No street lights turned the commute into Thunderdome. Rarely did I see cars even slowing down when going through major, unlighted, intersections.

The scariest are people riding bicycles in pitch dark streets downtown - without any lights or reflective clothing. I'm surprised there hasn't been more road fatalities.

Is it 26th street? I heard 37th down. I know some friends in Chelsea say they don't have power (25th & below) but my office is down which is on 28th & Park.

I actually considered riding my bike in if the power came back up tomorrow but fixed gear + no brakes + idiot drivers + no streetlights = NOMOARLIFE. :(
