1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

My point was that "fractional reserve banking" has approximately nothing to do with these trends. That's what I said, pretty clearly. Did you watch some documentary that's got you worked up about the banking system, or are you a huge Liz Warren fan, or what?

FWIW, my profession is currently related to the oil industry, but until recently 95% of my job was to know as much as possible about financial institutions. It is obvious you have a very incomplete and agenda-y view of banking. If you think I'm going to explain banking to you, fuck off and go buy a 500 page textbook.

Huh? Do not remember this. In any case, you're read-through suggests a lack of appreciation for the breadth of the industry. I don't care about cracking and it is not related to what I do.

Ha. It is broad. There's like, people who look for it, and people who drill for it, and people who put pipes together for it, and people who turn it into #6, and people who sell it, and helicopters, and all kinds of stuff. Hundreds and hundreds of people.

i'm very certain that Booth is very much aware of all of that. Even I'm aware of it, and I only know a teeny little bit about it from the banking side (even then, I know more from the Power side than from the Energy side)

Does the ignore function only work if one tells the offending party they are being placed on ignore?

I'm guessing the data would almost suggest that the opposite is true.

I'm with Gomestar. Let's talk about the fucking industry now. That's got to be much more interesting than either oil or restaurants.

Not that I disagree with what you guys were saying related to gentrification, but it does have some benefits. Before Whole Foods came to the city and Fairway was bought by a sponsor and expanded, you had to buy your groceries at the likes of D'Agostino and Food Emporium which was (and still is) a pretty sad experience.

This is partly true (depending on your neighborhood). There were/are a handful of places (Fairway, A&V, Garden of Eden, Gourmet Garage, etc.) that bridged the gap nicely. No one is arguing that some improvement in the grocery scene is a bad thing (although there are WF haters) - it is the umpteen Starbucks, Duane Reades, WaWas, 7-11s, etc that are replacing still vibrant & viable businesses who cannot afford the 10X rent increase.

Why don't we just hate on the patrons of all of these places? I don't know a single person who goes to Dunkin Donuts, yet they seem to be fucking everywhere. They are everywhere because people shop at them. Hate the patrons not the business.
