I had a gorgeous walk to work this morning.

Until a garbage truck blared his air horn trying to make a turn onto Broadway (bro doesn't know there's a water main break?) startling everyone within 100 feet. Shit is ear drum rupturing loud. I saw at least a dozen people literally make the "wtf man?" face, hand gesture, or said it out loud.

ugh, that's what the beer truck guy was like this morning. and that shit is really fucking loud, like you pointed out. are those horn at an ok volume for heavy automobile traffic where 80% of the cars have stereos on? probably a little loud, but trucks be big and dangerous, so naturally their volume is up there. is it an ok volume for pedestrian traffic in a congested city where people will be a few feet away from the blast? NO.

Yeah, I was probably 40 feet away and it was LOUD. There was a dude who was only 5 feet away on the corner and he was incredibly pissed off, as he should be.

I was looking for a video of crazy pedestrians when I came across this sweet little clip of an elderly woman sitting in her car and waxing poetic about what she sees out the window and her life in NYC. I will hunt down anyone who's says a negative thing about this video.

    My man.

15 seconds in and I was hooked. There's something compelling about her voice and manner. Had a little Bill Cunningham thing going on.

Apparently, three 19th century buildings on 57th Street are about to get torn down to make way for what will inevitably be some ugly-as-fuck contemporary Glam-Wow[IMG] commercial/condo tower , which will push Rizzoli Bookstore out of business. Not that I have any interest in standing in the way of demand in the real estate market, but some of these developers are insufferable philistines. That block was already pretty hideous and lifeless, and this certainty won't help.

I don't know if this is related (probably is) but the Art Student League is selling their air rights to Extell for $31.8 million or something like that. There is a big campaign throughout the building urging members to vote Yes since a non-vote counts as a No.

LeFrak is responsible for some of the ugliest physical scars NYC has ever endured. In fact, everything they've ever done has been hideous.

because more foot and vehicle traffic is just what 57th Street needs.
