I find it irritating when they stand 30 feet apart, back to you. You pass them and then you realize that their partner is gonna hit you up in the next 15 feet. I know it doesn't make sense for me to be pissed off by this tactic more then if they were standing together and facing us but somehow I find it disingenuous.

The only ones of this type I've seen with any regularity are the Children International charity ones that try hitting you up for recurring monthly donation plans. I just tell them I'm already a donor while wearing a winning smile.

    Works for me.

Those are the ones I was referring to. What's up with their phony smile and hugs?

We get the Human Rights Campaign people and either Green Peace or the Sierra Club (not sure which, I don't ever look at them) on the regular.

The other day, the chirpy checkout clerk at Trader Joe's (my first mistake) greeted me with, "how's it going, bro?" My steely glare ensured he said, "thank you, Sir" as I left.

Last year in the LES I told a beggar if she wanted my money she could sell me the iPhone in her hand. Got a good laugh with that. Just arrived in Manhattan and made it to shake shack before they closed the door at midnight - good start to the trip.

And just scored Eleven Madison Park reservations. About damn time.

for the charity muggers - chuggers - I start speaking another language; Italian or Portuguese usually puts them off. Alternatively just say 'I don't speak English' and continue walking , smiling.

Can't wait to try that. Was also considering chatting with them as long as possible to simply waste their time. Obviously, I would need a lot of free time for that.
