Fairway is the biggest clusterfuck of a grocery store that I know of, but I live close to one so it's what I inevitably frequent. They're constantly taking up the sidewalk on a very busy street, but what's even worse is in the store. Those same giant hand carts are re-stocking the store seemingly every 7 minutes, and it makes EVERYTHING a total clusterfuck. I always feel like drilling my eyeballs out everytime I cash out. Fairways is good for basic fruits and vegetables (nothing fancy since they probably don't sell it) and dairy. Speaking of dairy, must they insist on selling 52 types of milk from 8 different brands? I suppose the selection is cool, but they just overdo it. Fish really sucks there. Meat mostly sucks. The spice collection is solid, but this past visit they didn't have any Maldon salt, which I needed. Olive oil selection is good.

still, anything is better than Food Emporium.

Was it ART, I am confused. Where can I buy it?
IMO, most complaints about NYC are not really valid. It is sort of like being in Mogadishu or Beijing and complaining about local lack of manners, dirty streets, offensive odors etc.

It is all dependent on my mood really. It is amazing how sometimes something with make me livid or aggravated and other times I am completely fine.

Agree. The Grand Central entrance that I use has 4 turnstiles. Add traffic heading in the opposite direction and you're left with perhaps 2 turnstiles to enter.

Like what? I go there once a week as it's close and has most things I need, but I dread the experience.

The sheer fact that it is a fairly "normal" grocery store is something to be happy about. And generally a pretty good one at that.

Fairway is kind of like San Francisco in that it's a pretty cool place if you eliminate all other life forms. It's not like san Francisco in the fact that that it's open until at least 10 PM.

We used FreshDirect a bit when we didn't live close to a grocery store. Good meat/fish/cheese, produce mostly good, but the big problem was, like gome said, you can't pick it yourself, so sometimes you'd end up with really unripe avocados or whatever.

We still use it very occasionally when, for example, we know we will be getting back into town late on a Sunday from being out of town and need groceries for the week. Can order them and just have them delivered Sunday night.
