I was eating kal bi before any of you were born
Thanks for the tip - that place looks great too. Might have to hit that up instead of Traif. I love that place around the corner from Traif - the post office?
Perhaps at Steve's BBQ in berkeley? Go Bears!
steve's is where I discovered Korean. huge meal, $4.25
Me too, along with Koryo I guess. I don't know if you ever return there, it's no longer in the same location - they moved to the corner location previously occupied by Manuel's - but pretty much same as ever. I think prices start at $6.95 now. Part of the sadness of football season ending is not having Steve's BBQ for 8 more months. Of course that's now offset by not having to watch the football team get blown out every week so maybe it all evens out.
Oddly, I learned about eating sushi at a Korean BBQ place that my dad would take us to but we never ate Korean food there. I didn't have Korean BBQ till my late 20s in Annandale.
I wouldn't take lessons on how to eat sushi at a Korean BBQ place. Koreans do weird shit with sushi and sashimi
This was Austin TX of the 80s and early 90s. Nobody knew anything about sushi anyway.
we don't do weird things with sashimi... But yea wouldn't eat it at a korean restaurant. If its a sushi place owned by koreans, then thats fine.
And definitely go to flushing for korean bbq. But it's a pain in the ass to get to flushing unless you have a car.
yes we do... what kind of self respecting raw fish eater would dip sashimi in chojang...
i also would not eat at a sushi place owned by koreans... not unless you're a fan of spicy dragon rainbow godzilla rolls
Gwynett and Traif are two completely different animals. Both awesome in their own right, but completely different kinds of experiences. I love both of them. I have never been to the Post Office actually. The feeling that I get from it is gimmicky, but it is only a feeling.
There is a new Koren BBQ place opening up on my block. 24 hours too. The windows still have paper over them, but from the outside and the signage and such, it looks like it is going to be a wild, schizophrenic ride.
i had a real NYC moment yesterday. I started crying in the middle of a crowded 1 train. I was standing so it was extra awkward.
Aw, why were you crying?
did you do a couple of fake sneezes as a way of letting others know "oh, he's not crying, he has allergies".
you could have also started chopping an onion.
At first it was a very dignified, Denzel Washington eyes welled to the brim single tear down the cheek cry. Then I started to do that awkward deep then short breathing pattern before an ugly cry. Then the nose leaking snot, red eye-d, puffy face, hyperventilation semi-sobs ugly cry started. Luckily i had a handkerchief to wipe the tears, snot, and semi-shield my shame. But only one hand free because I was standing with one hand on the pole. God I must have looked like a mess.
