    Best Szechuan near Union Square?

Planning on hitting up Han Dynasty again since it's nearby, but willing to persuade my friends to try a different place if one is close enough.

negative. Get a sandwich at Num Pang and then visit the Strand. Or pony up a little bit and eat at Aldea, or Union Square Cafe, or Grammercy Tavern, or Maialino, or something from any of the restaurants inside Eataly, or 15 East, etc, etc.

What is the appeal of expensive, pay-to-attend New Year's Eve and other holiday parties? Are people really that desperate to feel like part of a "scene" almost entirely populated by equally desperate strangers? I'd much rather spend holidays with some close friends or family at home.

I've only eaten at the midtown location actually, so I don't know. The downside is it is kind of in a no-man's-land area in midtown.

I can't, in good conscience, recommend Ippudo even though I think it's awesome

What? That is ridiculous. Comparing their ramen to the instant stuff is just wrong.

That said, instant ramen can be good if you do it the right way. Add an egg. Some leftover meat from dinner last night. A touch of chili oil or hoisin sauce.

it's $17 for a bowl of delicious soup. I wouldn't feel so bad if Super Taste wasn't $5.

The Leopard on the UWS, where Cafe des Artistes used to be, is excellent, by the way. Well, if you like Gattopardo in midtown--which we love. Some of the best Italian in the city.

I went to this place on Columbus ave in the 80's called Corvo Bianco. Great Italian, plus an awesome space and good bar, great wine list (didn't know anything on it, but what I was recommended was stellar). Definitely recommend.
