I think the other sad thing is that the stratospheric wealth is hoarded by men in the 50-75 year old bracket.

seriously all the people that own the townhouses/3000-5000sq ft apartments/late 20yo to early 30y/o hot mistresses/girlfriends/2nd or 3rd wives are 95% all old dudes.

    ^this also applies to Styleforum.

A couple of good friends moved to the Heights in the early '90s and my wife and I visited them so much they referred to their spare room as the Atlas room. We always had a great time there - great restaurants, BAM, Prospect Park, Sahadi... Sadly they have since divorced and moved on, and now I just get to Brooklyn for a few hours every couple of years :(

Eh. "Better" is subjective. There are always tradeoffs to living here or there. Chicago/Seattle/Austin/Skokie is clearly better than New York, except for all the ways it isn't.

This is the view I get from the apartment I have been cooking out of. The husband just turned 77 (cooked for his birthday dinner). His wife is younger, but only by 12 years. She is still hot, though.. I would say their case is one where living in NYC works out rather well.

I've never lived in NYC. I'm from the burbs.

50-75yo white male who pretty much used NYC as his personal Sim City game for the last decade.

I could have moved to Chicago for 50K a year and a desk job. Looking back, I am glad I went with my intuition and decided not to. Could I have had drunken nights, met more people, fucked more women? Sure! But I still know I wouldn't be as happy as I am now.

Do you remember that epic slapfest you got into with Tokyo Slim about animation? It was just brilliant - someone needs to publish a book, a thick badass hardcover coffee table book with the best SF fights (err... spirited discussions). I would buy 3 or 4 (for all my residences across the city)

You have no clue what you are talking about, but that is okay.

GDL wanted some experience. I am sharing my own.
