i hate when people say this (not trying to pick on you). I see it more as those who succeed here would have succeeded anywhere else anyways. I suppose it looks like i'm repeating the same phrase, but I see it a little differently. i realize this will make no sense to most. those who don't succeed, and there are thousands and thousands a year, are more like that girl in the article. that is, they come from all over the US, usually went to some second-rate college and did well there, and then they took a second-rate job that pays $35K a year to start (a few years ago, i read that this was the average wage for new grads moving to NYC), then realize that the upside just isn't there for their job and they take off and return home.
