for the past 3 years, Manton and I have been planning on going to Per Se. I keep stalling because I can't bring myself to deal with their wine list.

    That's a pretty good reason.

There's always that magnum of Lapierre Morgon.

I'd cheap out on the wine.

In my opinion, really excellent wine is best experienced on its own anyway. You only need something decent to go with a meal like that.

Hell, I could go without any wine when the food is of that caliber.

I splurge on a very expensive dinner maybe 4x/year. This year I think I have only done two (plus one I didn't pay for). We deliberately did not do anything "fancy" on either of our trips to CA so far. Instead, in August, we went to Slanted Door which was only like $175 and I dropped my plan to do the chef's table at Marinus. Though we will probably do Danko or something comparable at Christmas.

BTW, at one of those big dinners this year we were able to get two bottles of red Burg off the list for under current auction prices (thank you Sleewfoot)

WAIT, it was three, we did go to La Folie in April, and that was almost $500 (but for two).

It counts, so one time at Stone Barns, one at La Folie, and one at the Inn. Someone took me to Gramercy Tavern (and is taking me again later this month, yay!)

I like to go to Stone Barns at least 2-3x/year but the wife is not that into it and we are supposed to be saving money for some home project.

I was at Per Se recently for a friends wedding. I still prefer TFL if I were spending my own money.

Same. I am skipping a sommelier dinner I was planning to go to at Daniel tomorrow night. It's more for wine than food, obviously, which I can enjoy sometimes, but I just don't feel like getting dressed up, dropping $400+, and sitting in a room where the median age is 55 to drink a bunch of wines I will be too drunk to remember the next day.

There is nothing I would rather do at midnight than talk about free cash flow, and argue over deferred tax liabilities.

Analysts aren't allowed to argue. Or have independant thoughts. Or express individuality or free will. Not mine, at least.

Can I work for you? Because honestly that sounds very freeing in some respect.
