This. I learned all of my urban driving skills coming into NYC when I was in high school, and I almost always enjoy a chance to drive there. Friends have been known to ask why I drive like a NY cabbie.

I'd curl up into the fetal position and cry if I realized I had spent half a grand the night before.

    Had two incidents last week.

The leftette orders an uber car to bring her home, but they were running short of vehicles so they send a white stretch for her. She calls me as she is pulling up to say, "look out the window." This thing is as long as our building. People stared.

Three day later I host a group of Swedes for pre-dinner drinks before we head downtown to La Esquina for dinner. None of them, including the women, are under 6'2". To ferry us there they ordered a stretch SUV which is waiting in front of our building. More people stare as this troop of blonds giants gets into the car.

Thankfully we only got NY-stares when we arrived at the restaurant.

$500 per night isn't that much. I was in the meatpacking district a few months ago and one of the guys in the group was ordering magnums of Dom which were around $2k each.

Fortunately I think he was trying to impress a girl and paid for all of it. *whew*

The La Tache dinner cost me about $450. Worth every penny.

i know it isn't. I tend to order cheaper wines since i know what wholesale on stuff like Dom is, and i can't bring myself to ever order it.

Whatever guys--$500 for a two-person dinner is a lot of money, whether you are making $50k or $500k. I'm not saying it can't be worth it, but let's not pretend it's normal, even in New York.

I paid about that much when my wife and I went to Eleven Madison Park a couple of weeks ago. I'm not embarassed to admit that I felt the pain in my pocketbook.
