This is an, err, uniquely NY perspective.

Lovely weather today and supposed to continue through the weekend. It's a damn shame that I'll be in DC instead...

A friend of mine is the exec prod on HHI and I always gush when I see him about how much I love the show.

I remember an American family looking at a place in France. They were on the second floor and the wife commented that the windows didn't have safety bars for her kids. She explained this to the French agent who paused for a moment and said, "why don't you just tell your children not to jump out the window."

    She had no comeback.

Only watched the US version once to see a couple buy a quite nice three bedroom home. The husband explained to the camera that, "while the asking was 158K we really loved it so we bid 159K."

    Miss this strip very much.

one of my wife's former professors was on HHI, in Italy. He spoke with a really weird Danish accent, which I found to be an odd departure from the accent he had when I met him.

I was in Duane Reade, on line to check out, and this fucking lady in front of me was having the cashier price out different packs of gum that she was handing to him. I said to myself no way and GTFO.

    WTF is wrong with people?

Wasn't HH recently busted for being completely staged? Like the people had already bought a home before the show even taped.

Also, I remember an episode where some blond heifer from the Atlanta suburbs was looking for a place in downtown Rome with her "Italian fiance" and yes she went from some palatial mcmansion to a 5th floor walk up with no AC.

^ They're all staged. Every reality show you see has been written by 20-year-old story producers.
    The storage lockers are seeded.
The people trying to pawn things are given items and sent in.
Cast members are locked in rooms with alcohol for hours and told the only way they can go home is by having a screaming match and tipping over a table.
Do you think a skunk magically showed up on DD when they just happened to have the cameras on?

And then there are the adventure shows...

Survivorman is real. The camp life of Survivor is real.

But the basic premise is even faked. That's like filming Survivor in San Francisco.

Correct, even the first season of The Apprentice, which was actually interesting and well-thought out -- even though the competitors were mostly too clueless to take advantage of it -- was pretty obviously "helped along" by the judicious interference of the producers. It would be pretty interesting to read the contract they had with the contestants since some of the outcomes were clearly rigged.

Will we ever see an overhaul of NYC's subway system in our lifetimes?

If we do, I'm sure there will be a sense of of melancholy, given that its shittiness is kind of ingrained in NYC's culture, though.
